sir,
Pall Mall, S.W.
5th February, 1894.
I am directed by the Secretary of State for War
to request that you will be so good as to state the date
of the promulgation in the Colonies of Hong Kong and the
Straits Settlements of the Queen's Proclamations, issued
of the 1st of November 1864
under the
Orders in
Council
and the 26th day of June, 1867.
These proclamations had for their object the
fixing of the value at which the dollar should be issued
to the Troops.
I am also to request that you will be so good
as to state, at the same time, the date from which the
Queen's Proclamations issued under the Orders in Council
of the 18th of June, 1869, and the 12th of August 1876
took effect in the Colonies of Ceylon and Mauritius.
These latter proclamations directed that the
rupee, with a subsidiary coinage, should, from the date on
which the proclamation took effect in the Colony, be the
sole legal tender of payment.
Under Secretary of State
for the Colonies,
Downing Street.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
Mikuck
